kidney stone: A less common complication of Crohn's disease, kidney stones occur when minerals in urine crystallize and cause obstructions in the kidneys and urinary tract. These obstructions can lead to severe, intermittent pain.
large intestine: The function of the large intestine is twofold: reclaim water from the remnants of digestion and store and eliminate the waste products from the body.
lesions: Also called sores, an area of damaged tissue, often caused by infection or autoimmune activity.
malnutrition: Failure to maintain an adequate intake of nutrients and vitamins can result in malnutrition. This is often a symptom of Crohn's disease and is coupled with sudden weight loss.
obstruction: A blockage of a part of the digestive tract, urinary tract or any other vessel or duct in the body. In Crohn's disease, the intestines are often narrowed by inflammation, making it easier for them to become obstructed. This can lead to constipation, vomiting and pain.
